Student Judging Information

The judges are interested individuals, from a variety of walks of life, who have volunteered their time to assist with this program. They have varied experiences and backgrounds and are a valuable and crucial part of S/I/T. The S/I/T Committee has worked to minimize the inequities that can arise in any contest situation. Students, parents and teachers should realize that inequities may occur, and that committee members do want to be informed about problems, but that the decisions of the judges must be considered final.

Judging will be done within divisions, so the age of the students can be taken into consideration when judging the project and the student's explanation. In determining the score, the judges will consider:

  1. Student knowledge of project

• Can the student explain the project and its purpose?
• Can the student analyze and interpret what has been learned?
• Can the student describe the design and construction of the project?
• Were there any problems? How were they resolved?

  1. Quality of presentation

• Is the project original and creative?
• Is the project carefully constructed, appropriate and visually attractive?

  1. Adherence to rules

• Has the student followed all of the exhibitions rules?

If there is a tie for any of the top prizes a second team of judges will review the tied entries and make the final determination.
